MAERSK Line is reducing capacities

December 26, 2008

Decrease of container trade between Europe-Asia, Middle America-Asia and Pacific service has forced Maersk Line to reduce its transport capacities.

Due to reorganization of its transport processes, Maersk Line temporarily eliminated eight (6500 TEU) vessels out of its current shipping service. These vessels will stay anchored until May or June 2009.

“Regarding to current conditions on the market, we hit the point when anchoring of some our vessels is economically better solution as their dislocation. Shipping fares on separate routes are still under big pressure and does not cover transport costs. Rise of shipping fares is necessary to establish regular business conditions."

Michel Deleuran, Network and Product sector at Maersk Line

At Maersk Line assured that their customers and business partners would not perceive lack of service or any other service interruptions. On the other hand, Maersk Line thus has already started providing more direct liner service between Europe and Asia.
