The safest seats on airplane

October 24, 2008

Fear of flying was the main reason that “forced” British flight experts to research about safety on airplanes. Which seats are the safest, when some troubles occur on the airplane?

At University of Greenwich had made a research on the request of the British Union for Civil Aviation that brought out some interesting results. They analyzed different circumstances, where 105 passengers had died and collected information about the flight accidents from more than 2000 people, who had survived airplane accidents like emergency landing, collision or slip on the runway and fire on the plain (when airplane is on the ground).

Airplane seats

The safest seats are along the passage not more than 5 rows away from the exit - statistically are the safest seats in first two rows behind the exit doors. Beside that, front seats on board are also safer as other positions in the middle and behind, warn British researchers. Those who sat more than 6 rows from emergency exit, somehow rarely escaped safely from the airplane.

By the window is less safe!

If you sit in front part during the fire on plain (the airplane is on the ground), you have 65% chance to escape; other who sit behind have about 53% chances to escape alive. There is also difference between seats along the passage and by the windows. The window seats are less safe. Experts suggested more emergency exits that should low down the risk of injuries among the passengers during the airplane accidents on the ground.

Some flight companies already charge extra money for seats near emergency exits. Anyway, these outcomes can not help to passengers who are afraid of flying. They help themselves by various methods like, talismans, autogenous training, sleeping pills and alcohol as well. On the other hand, some people just do not want to flay and rather stay on the ground…
