More flights, less accidents
September 17, 2008
Although series of airplane accidents and troubles had happened in the close past, the statistic is telling different story. Statistically is airplane transport the safest mode of passenger transport. It is much safer as road transport when we compare the amount of transported passengers and deaths.
Recent catastrophe in Russia (Perm) when Aeroflot Boeing737 started burning just before the landing (88 passengers died), on Madrid airport in Spain (154 deaths), 68 deaths in Kyrgyzstan four days after that, 90 deaths among the passengers of cheap flight transporter One-Two-Go on Thai Pukhet last September, 199 deaths at arrival (unsuccessful landing) on the Sao Paolo airport on July previous year are all scary outcomes. On the other hand, statistics is telling that more and more passengers use airplane transport: year 2006 (4,4milliard); year 2007 (4,65milliard).
The main causes for rise of transported passengers are cheap flight companies; in Deutschland, about 25% of passengers fly with cheap flight tenderers. Experts view is that the rise of airplane transport will continue (5-6% per year) in the future.
In spite of that, the air transport will not be more dangerous, but it will stay the safest mode of transport in the future as well. Even more: In last period, the number of accidents fell down strictly. Last year flew 4,65 milliard of passengers and only 692 passengers died.
